Christmas market boost for new book

FLUSHING'S Christmas Market proved another resounding success, with Cornwall's creative community again declaring it to be one of the best in the area.

With several book sales under my belt, and numerous new orders received, the market also proved another significant boost for the new hardback edition of Flushing: A People's History, which is attracting a positive response from all quarters.

The book is now en route to Cornish exiles in many parts of Britain, and in Europe, in time for Christmas. One buyer said: 'It is a lovely book that will be treasured.'

Another said: 'I have spent days immersed in it. The detail is remarkable.'

The 384-page tome covers Flushing's four centuries of history, with special emphasis on the village's long-established families, some whose roots go back to the packet ship era.

Pictured above is Violet Trefusis, who married into Flushing's most prominent family and was a noted novelist in her day. She was notoriously involved in a relationship with the writer Vita Sackville-West.

She is one of many characters spotlighted in the book.
